Can Classic Cars Be Affordable?

Classic cars, vintage classic cars, expensive classic cars

For many people who dream of owning a classic car, the notion of how much money it takes to get involved is a major turn-off. If you are looking at a Rolls Royce or a Bugatti Atalante, then you may well be right. But if you are just setting out and developing your knowledge of classic cars, it is in fact possible to buy an affordable car that is still a classic. Of course rarity has a big influence both on the prestige and price of a vehicle, but if you willing to start in the mid-range, there are certainly options available to you.

The truth is, there are hundreds of classic makes out there that are affordable. Take away the “rarity” tag and you open up a whole new world of classic cars. The 1960s Beetles, Ford Falcons, Morris Minors and Chevy Novas were all produced in numerous production runs. So, while they may not be rare, they are still classics. You can purchase one of these from as little as around $4000 and find yourself the proud owner of a true classic.

If you are looking for affordable classics, stay away from convertibles and limited editions. And remember, you will get just as much enjoyment, if not more, from cruising in an affordable sixties Morris Minor as you will in a car that has broken the budget. Remember, too, that a more mass produced car will be cheaper to operate, and parts will be more readily available at affordable prices when repairs and replacements become necessary.
Finally, affordable classics won’t break the bank when it comes to insurance. So remember, owning and driving a classic car is primarily about enjoyment. Don’t get in over your head and you will still derive pleasure from owning and driving a classic that brings smiles to people’s faces wherever you go.
